Until the construction of the road on the route between Rosh Ha'Ein and Ariel, road 505 connected Gush Dan and the settlements of Samaria, and this road alone carried the title "cross-Samaria road". In the early 1990s, work progressed on Highway 5 between the Xem intersection and Ariel, in light of the development of the city of Ariel and the settlements of West Samaria adjacent to it and the increase in the volume of traffic between them and Gush Dan. After the establishment of the twenty-fifth Israeli government in 1992, the works on the road were frozen and resumed only in 2000. The opening of the road, which was accompanied by a blockade of Route 505 by the Israelis, brought to an end the period of prosperity of the villages of Mesha and Bidya who made a living from trading with Israelis along Route 505.
In 2000, the expansion of the road to two lanes was inaugurated between Gitti Junction and the western entrance of Ariel. Highway 5 merges at Gitti Junction with Highway 505, and the road that continues from Ariel Junction to Tapuh Junction, Ma'ale Ephraim and Highway 90 is marked as Highway 505.
In conclusion, the construction of the Ariel bypass was a demanding yet rewarding project. Through meticulous planning, effective problem-solving, and a steadfast commitment to quality, budget, and schedule, we successfully delivered this critical infrastructure project.
The experience gained from this project has significantly enhanced my capabilities as a Construction Engineer, equipping me with the skills to tackle future challenges with confidence and expertise.
